LONG NIGHT AT ICE CAPE
By John Mulholland
The Arctic was never part of the dream.
At a remote Auxiliary Radar Base carved out of endless snow and silence, the men of the 778th Squadron endure long nights of routine surveillance and bitter cold. Isolation is part of the job. Murder is not.
When the base doctor is found dead, the tragedy feels impossible. When more officers begin to fall—targeted with chilling precision—the frozen outpost becomes a prison. Suspicion spreads faster than frostbite. Curfews are enforced. Pistols are issued. No one is above doubt.
Colonel Clinton Atkins struggles to maintain command as fear fractures the squadron. His prime suspect? The ironic, hard-drinking Lt. Terry McKane—a man who seems to care little for rank or reputation. But when McKane’s best friend is killed in what appears to be a calculated message, the detached lieutenant sheds his careless facade.
Now McKane is hunting.
Armed with little more than sharp instincts and a list of names, he begins eliminating suspects one by one. The clues point to something far more disturbing than random violence: someone is “executing” the leadership—methodically, mercilessly, and with a twisted sense of justice.
As a blizzard closes in and time runs out, McKane races to stop a final killing that could shatter the squadron forever. In a confrontation charged with accusation, loyalty, and gunfire, the truth emerges under the cold Arctic moon.
In the loneliest place on earth, survival isn’t just about the cold.
It’s about uncovering the killer before the long night claims them all.
